Daphne's Book

Daphne is the last person Jessica wants to work with on the Write-a-Book project, but her feelings change when she gets to know Daphne and stumbles on her terrible secret.

When keeping her friend’s secret could mean putting her in danger, what should Jessica do?

• A School Story: Seventh-graders Jessica and Daphne are paired for a "Write-a-Book" contest, forcing two very different girls to work together.
• Dealing with Bullies: As their friendship grows, Jessica must choose between fitting in with the popular kids or defending her new friend from their cruel teasing.
• A Difficult Secret: Daphne’s talent as an artist hides a painful home life of poverty and neglect with her confused grandmother, a truth Jessica feels she must protect.
• Empathy and Compassion: A classic problem novel that explores what it means to be a true friend and the courage it takes to do the right thing, even when it’s the hardest choice of all.
