The ratting dog of the industrial north, under the name it carried before it became the Manchester Terrier.
The Black and Tan Terrier - A Complete Anthology of the Dog gathers breed chapters from the rare kennel literature of 1897 to 1931, among them H. W. Huntington's My Dog and I (1897), Arthur Craven's Dogs of the World (1931) and A. Croxton Smith's About Our Dogs (1931). The breed they describe is the direct forerunner of the Manchester - a sharp, clean-limbed vermin killer from the mill towns, later renamed and now searched for under both names.
Points, coat and markings, temperament, celebrated dogs and their pedigrees are set out in full, with the original photographs reproduced throughout.
