The first breed made in Australia to win recognition abroad - a rough little ratter with a settler's constitution.
Australian Terrier - A Complete Anthology of the Dog gathers the chapters devoted to the breed in the kennel literature of the 1930s, among them Edward C. Ash's The Practical Dog Book (1930), Stanley West's The Book of Dogs (1935) and Walter Hutchinson's Hutchinson's Dog Encyclopaedia (1935). They describe a dog built from the rough-coated terriers that settlers carried out from Britain, kept on farms and stations for vermin, first shown in Melbourne in 1868, and admitted to the Kennel Club register in 1933 - the moment these writers were watching.
Points, temperament, working character, celebrated dogs and their pedigrees are all here, with the original photographs reproduced throughout.
