Steve Ditko, co-creator with Stan Lee of Spider-Man, wrote and drew this 14-chapter, 140-page graphic novel in the 1980s. It is a self-contained, true graphic novel, in that it has an actual plot, characters that move the storyline and spark the conflict, and a satisfying resolution. As the story develops, ethical themes of substance arise. This work stands proudly at the same level as many other pinnacles of Ditko's long, productive, and innovative career.
Steve Ditko (1927-2018) studied under Jerry Robinson at the Cartoonists and Illustrators School in New York and began working at Atlas Comics, the precursor to Marvel Comics, in the mid-1950s. He made his name as the artist and cocreator, with Stan Lee, of Spider-Man and as creator of Doctor Strange, securing his legacy as a consummate storyteller and a key figure of the Marvel Age.
