Karl Ove's autobiographical fiction is hailed as a masterpiece by the literati. However, many readers complain online that his prose and topics are too banal for literary greatness. His response is gymnastic: an update hewn from sentences found in classics. In reviews, short stories, emails, and literary criticism he teases out uncanny coincidences between his life and the canon. Mourning, divorce and his growing love for Andrea are patiently animated along with the dead they speak through.
