What if philosophy, theology, and science spent a little more time together? These fields often seem at odds, butting metaphysical heads. Instead of talking at, how about talking with one another? This book engages three academic disciplines--distinct yet sharing much in common--in a slice of conversation and community in which participants have aimed at validating the other and the way the other sees the world. The result is a collection of essays united by a thread that can be hard to find in academia. In bringing together a wide range of contributors on a project that at first seemed unlikely, Irreconcilable Differences? is also a testament to the spirit of cooperation and hard work--evidence that small acts and events can make a big difference, and that sometimes all you need in order to make something good happen is an idea with a little support along the way. The editors of this collection are hopeful that its contributors and readers will keep looking for ways to bridge academic, social, and political gaps. We need to forge relationships based on personal knowledge and proper confidence seeking to make meaningful claims in an increasingly complex world.
David Peck is a Paris-trained fashion designer, speaker, podcast host, and author whose work sits at the intersection of design and identity. His upbringing in an extremely conservative evangelical home handed him a life that had already been designed for him. He has spent his career since designing his own. After studying at Parsons Paris and spending nearly five years living and working in France, he opened his namesake boutique in Houston, where he's built a reputation for custom couture worn by everyone from brides to A-listers, including Kate Bosworth, Taylor Swift, Tony Award winner Kelli O'Hara, and opera star Ailyn Perez. His designs have appeared on the cover of Women's Wear Daily and in Teen Vogue, Marie Claire, InStyle, and People Style Watch. He has been featured on America's Next Top Model, Hart of Dixie, and E! News.In 2024, David launched Inside the Design Studio, a podcast exploring identity, reinvention, and what it actually takes to design a life you love. The same themes anchor his speaking work, which has taken him to Princeton, FIT, the University of Houston, and Fashion Group International events around the world. His first book, ARTful, brings a designer's process to the work of building a life. Its framework - Assemble, Refine, Try - is the method he has used in the studio for two decades, applied across three domains: the word that sets your direction, the wardrobe that speaks before you do, and the world you actually live inside.David chairs the board of Paris University, which includes Paris College of Art, and serves on the board of Theatre Under the Stars in Houston, where he lives.
