Akkanholme, city of a thousand and one delights, is glittering, magical, trend-setting, and wealthy. It is also corrupt, with a vicious underbelly both in the poor quarter and among the richest elites.
While hated new policies lead to civil unrest, the city's foremost thieves, the Diamond Prince and Sweet Moonlight, engage in ever more ridiculous contests of skill and one-upmanship, stealing bigger, better, and more valuable items and taunting each other across the roofs and spires of the upper city. Their rivalry, almost as great as their fame, knows no bounds. Which is a problem when they're abducted, blackmailed, and given a week to steal five obscure items from five vaults or face terminal consequences.
The Diamond Prince doesn't need the help of a pretty, second-rate gentleman thief from the upper classes. And Sweet Moonlight doesn't have time for a thief staggering under the weight of the chip on his shoulder, no matter how attractive.
But rivalry is the last thing they can afford as the clocks tick down. As they begin to plan their elaborate heists, they're forced to wonder who it is pulling their strings, and why these items in particular, and what it is that's really going on in their city. To find out, they're going to have to achieve the impossible.
Which starts, unfortunately, with trusting each other.
