The risen Jesus did not ascend immediately. He stayed. He appeared to Mary in the garden, to two disciples on a road, to ten frightened men behind locked doors, to Thomas a week later, to seven fishermen on the shore. In each appearance he spoke. And in every word he spoke after the resurrection, he was doing the same thing: completing what the cross had started, restoring what fear and failure had broken, and sending the people he loved into the world.
