A dangerous client. A stolen jewel. A vampire in Sussex. The final cases of Sherlock Holmes. The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes brings together the last twelve adventures of Arthur Conan Doyle's legendary detective. In these late stories, Holmes investigates a sinister aristocrat, a missing soldier, a stolen crown jewel, a suspicious vampire, a mysterious death on Thor Bridge, a creeping man, a fatal encounter by the sea and the hidden scandals of old houses and respectable families. The collection reveals Holmes in some of his most unusual roles: detective, strategist, observer, retired investigator and, in two stories, narrator of his own cases. Dr Watson remains central to the world of Baker Street, yet this final volume also experiments with perspective and tone, giving the last Holmes stories a distinctive place within the canon. First published in book form in 1927, The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes was the final collection of Sherlock Holmes stories by Arthur Conan Doyle. It is presented here as Volume 9 of The Complete Sherlock Holmes Collection, arranged according to the order of original publication. This is the English-language hardcover edition of The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes. Arthur Conan Doyle. Sherlock Holmes. The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes. The Complete Sherlock Holmes Collection 9. The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes (London: John Murray, 1927; first published in The Strand Magazine, London, 1921-1927). Complete and Unabridged Unillustrated Edition. Arthur Conan Doyle

Arthur Conan Doyle was born in 1859. He trained to be a doctor at Edinburgh University and eventually set up a medical practice in Southsea. During the quiet periods between patients, he turned his hand to writing, producing historical novels such as Micah Clarke and adventure yarns including The Lost World, as well as four novels and fifty-six stories involving his most celebrated creations, Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson. Doyle was knighted in 1902. In later life he devoted much of his time to his belief in Spiritualism, using his writing and celebrity as a means of providing funds to support activities in this field. He died in 1930.
