The High Adventure

A headstrong young heir has spent his twenty-four years earning a reputation for brawling and defiance. When his guardian finally orders him shipped off to the Brazils, he refuses, instead packing a knapsack and setting out on foot across the English countryside—driven by a darker purpose than mere rebellion. Sixteen years ago his father died in what was called a duel, but he suspects murder, and the man responsible has never been found.

His journey quickly becomes a high adventure, shadowed by sudden violence and whispered secrets. Accidents that are not accidents, a stolen pocketbook, and enemies who lurk behind affable smiles push him toward the truth about his family’s past. Along the way he crosses paths with a canny Bow Street Runner whose help may be invaluable—if he can be trusted.

Now, as the noose tightens around the inheritance, he must decide how much he is willing to risk to unmask a killer who has already waited sixteen years to strike again.
