The Thrill of the Hunt

Rose is a young red-tailed hawk suffering through her first season of hunting. She's cold, and she's hungry. In a twist of events, she finds herself in the care of a kind and patient falconer, his energetic dog, Echo, and the brains of the operation, his trusty sidekick, the gerbil Ol' Bill. Rose must learn to trust these new people, train in the ancient sport of falconry, and overcome her fears. Together, they're just the team to do it. In Mark Smith's debut novel, he brings fun animal characters into an informative discussion on the importance of falconry to the raptor population. The book demonstrates the importance of working patiently alongside wildlife to bring about a stronger population with improved hunting skills.
