A beautiful woman. A medical experiment. The horrifying truth of what lies hidden in the soul.
The Inmost Light is a deeply disturbing psychological horror story by Arthur Machen, exploring the esoteric terror of identity and the transference of consciousness.
The tale is introduced through a group of friends discussing a baffling and tragic case: the mysterious deterioration and eventual death of Mrs. Lathom, the beautiful and refined wife of a prominent London doctor. Dr. Lathom, a respected scientist, becomes obsessed with a secret, revolutionary medical project that requires him to study human consciousness.
The Inmost Light is a chilling masterpiece of body-horror and transcendental dread, a precursor to many modern stories of mind-switching and the fundamental terror of losing one's identity.
