Steel clashes against sorcery. Ancient gods stir in forgotten ruins. Thieves, kings, monsters, and dark magicians all learn the same lesson: some dangers are best left undisturbed.

Sword-and-Sorcery Tales: Volume 1 gathers seven classic adventures from the golden age of heroic fantasy. Across haunted towers, frozen wastelands, pirate-infested seas, and kingdoms threatened by dark magic, a fierce Cimmerian wanderer confronts supernatural horrors, treacherous enemies, and impossible odds with nothing but his strength, cunning, and indomitable will.

Included in this volume are The Phoenix on the Sword, The Scarlet Citadel, The Tower of the Elephant, Black Colossus, The Pool of the Black One, Gods of the North (also known as The Frost Giant's Daughter), and Rogues in the House. From jewel-filled temples and forbidden mysteries to epic battles against sorcerers and monsters, each tale plunges readers into a savage world where civilization stands precariously against the darkness beyond its borders.

Filled with action, adventure, strange magic, and unforgettable imagery, these stories helped define the sword-and-sorcery genre and inspired generations of fantasy writers. Whether facing ancient evils beneath forgotten cities or battling enemies on the edge of the known world, these timeless adventures remain among the most influential works of heroic fantasy ever written.

Enter a world of steel, sorcery, and legend.

Robert E Howard

Robert E. Howard (1906-1936) was born and raised in rural Texas, the son of a pioneer physician. He began writing professionally at the age of fifteen and turned out dozens of tales of heroic and supernatural fantasy, featuring many memorable creations - including the character he is best remembered for: Conan of Cimmeria. These stories, mostly published in Weird Tales, won him a huge audience across the world and influenced a whole generation of writers, from Robert Jordan to Raymond E. Feist. Sadly, Howard killed himself in June 1936 when he learned that his beloved mother had fallen into a coma.
