C. P. Cavafy Selected Poems

The most influential poet you haven't read yet - and the one your favourite writers never stopped quoting.

W. H. Auden shaped his entire poetic voice around him. Lawrence Durrell wove him into the Alexandria Quartet. Universities worldwide teach him. And yet C. P. Cavafy remains the best-kept secret in modern poetry

A century after his death, his poems still read like they were written this morning: razor-sharp, sensual, and quietly devastating. This new translation into vivid, contemporary English preserves every edge - the longing, the irony, the erotic charge, the weight of history - without softening a single line.

This edition is for readers who want:

• Poetry rooted in Greek and Hellenistic history
• A foundational voice in queer literary tradition
• The philosophical lyric at its most precise and alive form
• A modern English translation that doesn't flatten

If you've ever finished a poem and sat still a minute longer than usual, you already know him.
