Are you interested in publishing a book? Whether you're thinking of writing a memoir, a children's book, a novel or an anthology, this DIY Publishing Toolkit will set you up for success. The toolkit is enriched by real examples from Australians who have self-published books, and covers the full array of processes from coming up with ideas, to editing and preparing the book contents, to producing, marketing and distributing your book. The guide has been written by four academics from the University of Melbourne and the University of Queensland who have extensive experience with writing and the publishing industry, and who together conducted the Community Publishing in Regional Australia research project.
Beth Driscoll is Associate Professor of Publishing and Communications at the University of Melbourne. Her books include The New Literary Middlebrow: Tastemakers and Reading in the Twenty-First Century (2014) and, with Kim WiIlkins and Lisa Fletcher, Genre Worlds (2022). With Claire Squires, she is the co-founder of Ullapoolism.
Kim Wilkins published her first novel, a supernatural thriller, in 1997. Since then she has successfully maintained a busy writing career, as well as earning a PhD and holding down a job as an associate professor in writing and publishing at the University of Queensland. Under her pseudonym, Kimberley Freeman, she has published seven novels of epic women's fiction. She is published in twenty-one languages and has written for adults, young adults and children.
She remains obsessed with misty English landscapes, Led Zeppelin, and chihuahuas.
