Wren's Nest

SELECTED FOR CBC'S FALL ROUNDUP: "THE WISDOM OF ELDERS"

An intergenerational picture book about love, birds, and new beginnings, perfect for comforting young children facing life's biggest changes, from moving to a new house to welcoming a new sibling.

When Wren was born, Grandpa put a wren box just outside the window of her tiny room, nesting her in the soothing songs of backyard birds. Each spring, Wren and Grandpa watched new life unfold together.

Everything changes when Wren's family moves to the city. The vibrant meadow is replaced by concrete, their home has an extra room waiting for new life, and the only birds in sight are pigeons. Lots of pigeons. But when Wren and her grandpa discover a wild phoebe nest in the porch rafters, Wren realizes that the miracle of new life--and the warmth of family love--can find a home anywhere.

Featuring gorgeous illustrations and educational backmatter with birdwatching resources, Wren's Nest beautifully explores the bond between grandfather and granddaughter, the resilience of urban wildlife, and the anticipation of a new baby sibling.
