  • Joining legends like Ann Beattie with cult figures like Scott McClanahan, Pets is a one-of-a-kind anthology of writing about pets of all shapes and sizes.
  • From Sarah Manguso’s emotional farewell to a beloved cat to Scott McClanahan’s ode to an unmissed evil chihuahua, from Ann Beattie’s surprising attachment to a stuffed dog to Blake Butler’s enduring connection to his pet chickens, these essays are by turns unexpected, loving, vengeful, hilarious, and unforgettable.
  • In the vein of Eileen Myles’s Afterglow, Pets brings together writing from exciting literary voices with one of the most universally connecting topics: animals, and the intense bonds we create with them.
  • Pets is addictively readable, and is by turns riotously funny and emotionally poignant; it includes stories not just about dogs and cats (though there are plenty of those) but also tortoises, chickens, parakeets, horses, chameleons, and more.
