The breed we now call the English Toy Terrier, under the name it answered to for the first sixty years of its life.
The Miniature Black and Tan Terrier - A Complete Anthology of the Dog gathers the early writing on the breed from the rare kennel books in our library, among them W. D. Drury's British Dogs. The Kennel Club recognised the small variety in 1903 under this name; it was renamed the English Toy Terrier only in 1960, which means that everything written about the breed before then is filed under a name most buyers no longer know. This volume is the shortest route back to it.
Points, markings, temperament, celebrated dogs and their pedigrees are all set out, with the original photographs reproduced throughout. The breed is now on the Kennel Club's Vulnerable Native Breeds list.
