Happy New Year! 💞
Like me, you’re probably already being targeted by workout subscriptions, 2025 diaries, and New Year sales pushing us to buy even more stuff.
You won’t find any of that here. I wanted to write to you with something actually useful and worth your time. A 2025 productivity starter kit of sorts. No gatekeeping or gimmicky tricks.
Just five little snippets of straightforward productivity advice designed to help you kickstart your year in a wholesome (and productive) way.
Take → all ← of January
You don’t need to lock in your goals the second the clock strikes midnight on January 1st. I tend to take the entire month of January to sort out my life and contemplate what I really want for the year ahead. One month spent reflecting and planning will make for a much more enjoyable and, quite frankly, successful 11 months thereafter. Don’t rush this process.
Think of habits, not resolutions
Resolutions famously don’t stick because we often try to shoehorn them into our already full lives. Instead of resolving to do vague things like “Be more organized” or “Learn French,” think of habits you can form that would support your goals, like “Plan my week every Sunday” or “Take a French class once per week.” You are what you do consistently, so engineer your habits to support you (and your goals.)
Plan your week
You didn’t think I’d get through an entire email without coaxing you to plan your week out, did you? I’ll say it until I’m blue in the face: Do a weekly review (👈 we even have a step-by-step video). It will make you a calmer, more organized person and is likely the keystone habit that will unlock all of your other goals.
Simplify what you can
We are huge fans of the delete button when it comes to Todoist tasks. If it’s no longer serving you, get rid of it. Instead of just adding new layers of complexity, first ask yourself, “How can I make this easy?”. Trim the excess and leave yourself only with the tasks that genuinely matter.
Plot your tasks within your time
We all know the drill: you list everything you need to do in a day. There are 67 things on that list, and you’re absolutely convinced that you have the uninterrupted time and energy to complete them all with vigor. Then, after working hard all day, you end up disappointed that there are still 65 things on your list (if you’re lucky). The truth is you need to plan your tasks around your meals, commitments, and natural energy levels. The easiest way to do that? Schedule your tasks into your time and stick to your plan for the day.
And that’s it. If you were to implement one out of these five things, you’d be off to a great start in 2025. Properly implement all five? And you’ll be flippin’ unstoppable.
Which of these tips will you start with today? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Here’s what you achieved last year 🚀
A few months ago, in this very newsletter, we asked what Todoist helped you achieve in 2024. Honestly, the results were awe-inspiring. 🤩 From restoring blue whale skeletons to raising millions for charity, you folks have been busy.
If you have your own aspirations for 2025, take heart in the fact that these grand achievements all started with just one task. What one tiny task can you add to Todoist that would kickstart your new year trajectory?
Thanks for reading. 🤗 Wishing you all the health, luck, and happiness for the year ahead.
See you in Feb!
