Longshoremen in this country basically have government-granted hereditary fiefs for fake jobs that pay $200k+/year which they pass down to their kids by submitting fraudulent timesheets so the kids get union seniority
The reason to automate ports is not because it is cheaper or more efficient per se but because the members of the ILA and ILWU are atrocious people
The ILA is asking for a 77% increase in pay. They already get six figures for an unskilled job that does not require a high school education.
it's funny when the union people burst in and are like "well why are you beating up on the working man and not the guy in the suit?" well 1. because I am the guy in the suit (well, khaki pants anyway) and 2. because the suit guys get paid the market rate for their labor
