hey welcome to tools on Tech and today Iwanted to talk about a quick starter kitthat I made for lock seek you candownload the zip file the link is in thedescription down below and let's get toit and see what you get so quickoverview and that is that I have thingsabout books companies contacts projectsand task lists and on the bottom you seemy workflow we're gonna go through eachone quickly though I'm gonna group acouple because they're basically thesame but if you use my template then ifyou go to tools on Tech you will find a
getting started page and that will takeyou through the same steps there alsowill be a video in here but it's notright now because well I'm recording itand I can't time travellet's start with the my page as a pointof starting out so the reason why I havethis my page is because I want to removethe views from the data one of theproblems that I have is that if I make
something like a book and I put all myoverview in there then book becomes verybusy because everything that links willbe part of the references and I don'tlike that so what I do is I makesomething called my books and that oneis just the query that shows me thetotal overview of elements then let'shave a look at my workflow and myworkflow is a page that I use tobasically show myself what elements Ihave things that are in there are
references to my so my my base overviewmy context my projects though I don'treally update that that much because Iadd them to my favorites or constantlyuse them anyway so they're part of myhead it's mostly for me to keep track ofthe tags my purpose with them and tothink about them and so I have a coupleor one is the hashtag and f that you seehere which means no filter and that oneI use when I have filters where I wantto filter out certain elements becausethey get in the way of the total view
for example I want to filter out atemplate or I want to filter out one ortwo elements that are not really relatedto the setup or I already processed andI just add this tag and in my query Isay not and then the NF tag and removethem other things that I use a lot andthis is also where you already see Iadded the NF tag here because all thesetags I don't want these tags to beshowing up when I make the total listfor them so now if I make a list forvisit I could make a query set like hey
take a set of visit but don't show methe NF onesvisit here uh is when I visit someone inperson and I make notes afterwards callis for when I get called but someone andI make some notes afterwards meeting iswhen I'm actually in a meeting usually azoom or teams call with multiple peopleand finally ideas anytime I have an ideafor a YouTube video or tweet or maybeeven something else anything that popsup in my head I just Ram it into myjournal and Mark it with the hashtag
idea and that groups those thingstogether and allows me to go back intime I use mostly meeting and ID andpractice but you know to each their ownthen I have the to do tags and the to dotags are very much things that I need todo and I want to tag because I want togroup them so I personally have a coupleof examples here one is the hashtagresearch that I use for anything that Ineed to do research on so stuff I wantto read I want to go through Google it'sa certain mindset when I feel like hey Iwant to dive into some of these researchtopics then I got the hashtag play and
that one's more for when I don't feellike doing anything uh super productiveI just want to mess around with thingsvery often things like code newapplications that I want to try or playwith that I felt interesting maybe evensome small games but that usually ismore my free time set and I don't needto put that into like a hashtag playThen whiteboard and a whiteboard verymuch is needed in my case because I havethings that I want to whiteboard out Iwant to think about them but the problemthat I have is the Whiteboard is over
here and not at home so by grouping themtogether I know like hey I'm near theWhiteboard now I want to do some freethinking and writing down I look up thetasks that are marked whiteboard andthen the final tag that I have in hereis the hashtag process and I use thosewhen I make notes and I don't have timeto clean them up right away so I knowthis is important I need to process thisbut I need to do it either today ortomorrow because after that I'llprobably forget the details that I needto keep value into this note so then I
do a to-do process there and at the endof the day I check if there's any to doprocess left and if that's the case thenI go through that and make sure that allthe stuff that is in my head is in mynotes because if I try to do that a weeklater I will have forgotten everythingthat was relevant and the note loses itsvalue right so after the workflow comeshow do I deal with my tasksand dealing with my task I do with atask list page so let's go there I say
my task list I'm very bad at typingtoday and in the task list I have acouple of queries to sort for thingsthat I want to do and they're based onpriorities so you get like priority a bc and other tasks and they filter outthe elements that are in there and ABCis a bit Loosely based on the EisenhowerMatrix this is also part of the templatethis small overview where either thingsare Urgent and important I need to dothem now which is a then they're less
urgent but they are important B they areless important but still urgency and therest which you normally should deletebut very often they stick around becausewell you know there's always things thatyou want to do and that are anotherpriority right now but you still want toremember them and then by going throughthis list I can go in this list and justgo top to bottom and figure out what doI want to do next in the order ofpriority you can build drone setup butthat's the whole goal of the task listjust have a large list in the order of
things how important they are to you nowhow do I use this very often what I dois if I go to my journal I have a tasklist for the day and a lock I usuallyhave an agenda but we'll leave that oneout and to decide what I'm gonna do thatday I'm gonna go to my task listand I'm opening it with shift so byshift clicking on it it opens on theside and then I can just scroll and worktop to bottom now normally this one'sfilled with different types of tasks but
if I scroll down then at least I canfind some other tasks and say like okayI need to set up a project page forexample but this is part of a templateso maybe that should be part of my NFfilterum and then normally I would do Ctrl Cto make a block copy go to my task listand add it here and this way and you seelike theuh one getting added in the end here Ihave a log saying like Okay I scheduledto do it on that day because I can click
to this one and it will show me exactlylike Hey April 15 I put it on my tasklist and then if I want to work on itlater that day I usually take that sameelement and I say like heywork ona demo in a video which is what I'mdoing right now and then you can alsosee back in the task list they got thissmall lock thing that starts generatingthat you're like oh yeah I was workingon it and I added this this is how I usemy tasks it's a very short version I'mgonna make a dedicated video on my task
list usage but this is one of the waysthat I keep track of the tasks that I dowhat work has been done and if they aredone of course because if I Mark any ofthese done then they get marked doneeverywhere as you can see because theyare links and not copies great so that'sthe task list now I'm going to show youthe books and they're basically the sameas the contacts and the companies so ifI go to my books then what you see isyou see a book and you see information
there and you can decide on the endwhich Fields you want to see and they'rebased on a template so if I click onthis book then the details are here andsay I wanted to add a different book soI'm gonna go and say a I'm gonna make abook and I'm gonna call it the Martianand then use a template so I'll go totemplate the templates are part of thisas well I pick bookand then I can add information so on theside I can give it an alias I usually
give it the Alias of the actual name thereason I do that is that it's a book soit becomes part of the book namespacethat means that if there's a movie I canhave a different page that's calledmovie The Martianand the adios is for anything that Iwant to group so I can both name themthe Martian but I could also rename thisone and say like the Martian I alwaysrefer to the book and when it was themovie I add something behind it this ispersonal and this is still KnowledgeManagement for yourself not the authorand the we're I believe add all the
information that you need you canreplace this part with a URL fromGoodreads so you have an actual imageand just don't touch this part thenbecause that means that the size staysthe same for all the books meaning yourtable has a nice overview now thesummary has a small given it because Ienjoy messing around a little bit andthen I can put the summary so mangets left on Marsand complains about itwhich is basically a summary of thisexcellent book
um of course he also finds a solutionbut that's outside the point here andthen if I go to book you get the samething that I mentioned earlier that itsays like hey this one's just confusedbecause it gets like a lot of stuff hereand I go to my books for my overview andthat shows me the book and there's noimage because I didn't add an image yetand this is the same thing for mycontactswhich is also an overview of context mycontact information is there so if youwant to reach out you can find thatinformationand this is filled in so if I go to the
page you can see all the details here onthe sideand it's the same for companies and Ican even go there straight from here Ibelieve because it should have companyin here so now I open my company page astype company and that one also has itsown link and pages so and again overviewof all the companies I have you can addyour own properties I put a couple ofexamples in the templates things likeaddress and city but nothing more oh
yeah website I think but nothing reallyup detail because it's very personal andproper adding properties is easy enoughyou can just edit the template now howdo you change the templates if you lookfor template and say for example I wantto do the company template then they areall under my templates meaning thatthey're easy to find you can just typein something like template book and ifyou do that then the top hits willusually be my templates book looking atthe template you can make any changesyou want here add extra properties make
the summary differentanything that is under it I also have asection for slip notes they are allempty in this demo file because there isno Journal slip notes in my case alwayscome out of my journal and in this quickstart setup I didn't want to do thatbecause the journal A gets outdated veryquickly because the entries are old alsothe journal is something that willdefinitely overwrite other people's madeup notes from that specific day makingit a bad thing to just copy and paste
overand then finally I have a setup forprojects and I also added an exampleproject which was the actual project Iused to build this so you can have alook at that and play around with it solet's have another look at that and golike hey I go to projectsand then you see my projects and thisshows a couple of projects and it showsit in uh my templates project doinglet's take the example project that Idid and this is what I use for projectsI put a goal in because you need to know
when it's done a couple of things on thetop things like a state a priority I usea b c d but you can also use a numberyou can also use hi I would highlyrecommend though to pick something whichis either a number or alphabeticalbecause then you can easily sort it inyour table view another trick that I dohere is I add an alias and I alwaysstart with p 0 P for project and zerobecause I usually use a number you canmake that number as long as you like forme this will be good for the first 99projects and the reason I use P0 is
because the p and the zero are veryclose to each other on the keyboardmeaning that if I'm searching forprojects I can just go Ctrl k p 0 and Ialready get like a list of projects andthen in the project I usually have atask list and all the sub tasks under itand one of the reasons I put those ininto the project and inside the journalis that inside the project I can orderthem so I can move stuff up and down Ican make this whole list that I have towork through and because of filteringthey will come back in my thoughts list
overview where I can then pick them upas needed put them in my day plan andwork through them and I finally Slipknotswitches empty because of the samereason and as you see here like we justmade this example where I said like heyI'm just going to add this test to mytoday tasks you get that little two inthe end and normally when I have largeprojects with lots of notes while I wasdoing things there's a whole row ofnumbers here showing me everything I didand this shows me then like hey I got iton my task list on April 15th and I was
demoing it in the video on April 15th sothis gives you like a backlog for eachtask that tells you exactly when youworked on it how you worked on it whatwas related to it just the informationyou need to keep going with it to finishup that task or to tell people forexample handovers or the work done ifI'm to report back on that duringsomething like a daily stand-up okay soif you get the zip file there's two waysyou can use it first of all you can usewhatever zip archive manager you have to
just extract it so I'm saying extracthere I get the file you can also open itand drag it out it's all very dependenton the OS that you're using and thenthis folder itself you can open it byadding a new graph in log 6 so I gotlockseek I say Avenue graph I say go todownloads I pick the file directory andI click open voila you can mess aroundwith this play and you don't have toworry about breaking anythingnow the second method is that you want
to add it towards your existing graph ifthat's the case you have to be a littlebit more careful because you might justoverwrite something so what I do I'mgoing to open the zip file I'm going togo in there and I got the pages andassets folder those two things I want tocopy towards my directory I'm doing CtrlC here I'm going to go to the demotemplate I have here and I'm just gonnadrag these over and any good operatingsystem and I'm pretty much sure Ubuntuhere does it mostly notes do it Windows
does it and apple does it we'll say likehey are you sure you want to replacethese file and it should only ask thatfor the content markdown file becausethat's the only one that's really notthat uniqueum I would highly recommend that youmake a backup for beforehand and afterthat that you still do something likereplace nothing or just tracks with theeach individual file the rest of thefiles will then be extracted you'll beable to see them because you've gone toPages see a whole bunch of these my
namespace and tools on Tech namespacepages and at that point in time you cango to log seek open uh let's see I havea demo here and go there and do a quickre-index because there's a lot of fileschanged on the disk at that point intime you'll be able to mesh around andgo towards my getting started page solet's see if it's there Dolson Techgetting started and then there's theinformation to get you started so that'sa quick rundown of this template that Ibuilt the link is in description down
