George S Schuyler

George S. Schuyler was an American journalist, novelist, essayist, and social critic whose work frequently examined race, politics, class, and American culture through satire. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, in 1895, Schuyler served in the United States Army before establishing himself as a journalist. He became a prominent contributor to the Pittsburgh Courier and wrote widely for newspapers and magazines.Known for his independence of thought and his willingness to challenge prevailing political and social ideas, Schuyler often used humor and exaggeration to expose hypocrisy. His fiction includes Black No More, an audacious speculative satire that imagines a scientific procedure capable of eliminating visible racial differences and then follows the political, economic, and social consequences. Schuyler died in 1977.
